New York’s Power Challenge: How Did We Get Here — and How Can We Get Out?

New York’s energy system is changing, and the decisions made in the coming years could have significant implications for communities, businesses, and economic growth across the state.

On Thursday, November 12 at 6:00 p.m., FLX Gateway's Continuous Learning Committee will host the next Barstool University program at Lakewood Winery featuring Matthew Eldred.

The discussion will focus on New York’s changing energy landscape, including declining and shifting generation resources, increasing electricity demand, transmission constraints, and the economic importance of having enough reliable power available where it is needed.

The conversation will also look at possible solutions, including renewable energy and advanced nuclear technologies, and the tradeoffs associated with different approaches.

For communities like Schuyler County, these issues matter because energy availability is increasingly connected to business retention and expansion, new investment, housing and residential growth, and the ability to attract and retain people over the long term.

The program is intended to make a complex topic more approachable and give attendees a better understanding of the forces shaping New York’s energy future.
