Eligible small businesses and private nonprofit organizations in Schuyler County may now apply for U.S. Small Business Administration Economic Injury Disaster Loans related to excessive rain that occurred between April 1, 2025 and July 15, 2025.

The SBA declaration covers Schuyler County under New York Declaration 21562 / Disaster NY-20033. The filing deadline is December 21, 2026.

What the loans are for

SBA Economic Injury Disaster Loans, often called EIDLs, are working capital loans. They are intended to help eligible businesses and organizations meet ordinary and necessary financial obligations that cannot be met as a direct result of the declared disaster.

This can include financial strain caused by reduced revenue, business interruption, or other economic impacts tied directly to the excessive rain event.

Who may be eligible

The program may be available to:

• Small businesses• Small agricultural cooperatives• Small businesses engaged in aquaculture• Most private nonprofit organizations of all sizes

Applicants must be located in the declared disaster area and must show that the economic injury was a direct result of the disaster.

Important restrictions

The SBA fact sheet notes that agricultural enterprises, including farmers, are not eligible for SBA assistance under this program. Nurseries are only eligible for economic injury caused by declared drought disasters.

Only uninsured or otherwise uncompensated disaster losses are eligible. Applicants must also meet SBA credit and repayment requirements.

Loan terms

According to SBA, the maximum interest rate for this program is 4%, fixed for the life of the loan. Loan terms may be up to 30 years, with SBA determining the appropriate term based on the borrower’s financial condition.

Economic Injury Disaster Loans may be available up to $2 million, although the actual loan amount is based on SBA’s determination of economic injury, insurance recoveries, and other available resources.
